The fourth step of our Capstone design process had us focused on creating experiments. The idea of these experiments was to test certain aspects of our product in order to improve upon it. We also continued to learn how to use Onshape, the modelling program. Tinkercad and SimScale were also introduced to us, and we completed tutorials on how to use those programs.
Lab Report/Experiment Set Up
This document contains all three of our experiments in detail. We introduce the idea of each experiment, list the materials, state a hypothesis, state the procedure, conduct tests, list results, and have details conclusions. Our three experiments have to do with transactional coding, downloads, and sound tests.
Tinkercad
Tinkercad is a program used for designing circuits, arduino circuits, etc. We were tasked with completing tutorials in order to know how to simulate circuits without having to do so in real life. Below are some of the tutorials I've completed.
Simscale
Simscale is a CAD which we have primarily used to simulate stress tests and heat tests on 3d digital models. Below is one of the stress tests I conducted to learn how to use the program.
Onshape
We continued to create 3d models on Onshape, in order to increase our level of comfort with the program. Below are some new designs we were tasked with designing.
Reflection Design step 4 was pretty straightforward but felt extremely slow. I found the tutorials entertaining, but it remains that they have very little to do with our project. With only a semester to complete the Capstone, it seems unnecessary to keep these tutorials in the curriculum, but I guess some groups can use them for their products. This doesn't really apply to my groups project, since the product we are creating is entirely digital. I also made mistakes on these tutorials that led to the process being dragged out. The lab report also felt very dragged out, as it was difficult to work on with everyone's different schedules and workloads. We eventually finished, but much later than we should have. However, I think the content of the document itself is pretty well done, which I guess is the benefit of us taking our time.
