What was this project? For this project, we were tasked with choosing an animal from a list, preferably endangered but not all were, and make a presentation about it. The animal we chose was the lesser anteater, which is not really endangered but was on the list. For example, we answered how humans affected its survival and what species depend on it.
Concepts: Evolution: Change over time in the characteristics of a species over several generations. Evolution is constantly happening because organisms need to be able to survive in their environment to adapt. The lesser anteater has evolved to climb trees, so it wont be in harms way. Extinction: When a species completely dies off, including the ones in captivity. It can happen due to nature or due to humans, naturally and artificially. Speciation: When a new species is formed in the course of evolution. The different species of anteaters all share a common ancestor, but became different species because of allopatric or sympatric speciation. Natural Selection: Natures process that favors organisms better adapted to their environments, as they tend to survive and produce more offspring. Allopatric Speciation: When two populations evolve seperately from eachother. Sympatric Speciation: When two populations evolve alongside eachother.
Reflection: This project was a lot different than any of last years project, as it was wasn´t nearly as hands on, but I think I did well. One thing I did well in was finding good answers for the questions we had to answer in the presentation, and an example of this is when I answered ¨What specific resources does your species require and how do they get those resources?¨ Another thing I did well in was my work ethic. I did not get distracted and finished my slides within three periods. One thing I didn't do so well in was presenting. I had to look at the screen a lot to read my lines. Another thing I did poorly with was condensing my information for the slideshow. I had a hard time putting in all the info needed without putting in too much.
