What was the Murder Mystery project? This project we were tasked with finding who killed Carlton Comet, a mysterious man who had just been released from prison. He was hosting a picnic when suddenly the sky went dark and Carlton was found dead. Everyone who attended became a suspect. The suspects include Fred Flimmer, Teresa Terra, Glen Glee, Sam Sophomore, and Nancy Normal. Evidence at the scene was gathered to see if the killer could be found, like fingerprints, blood samples and DNA. The methods that were used to use this evidence were Pedigrees, blood types, karyotype, Ink Chromotography, and DNA fingerprinting. After conducting multiple experiments with the evidence and searching through family histories, we found that it was Nancy Normal that killed Carlton Comet.
Concepts Fingerprinting: Scanning a fingerprint to find out who it belongs to. Ink Chromatography: The process of separating chemicals and ink pigments in a pen. We used this to find who wrote the threatening note found at the scene. Karyotype: The number and appearance of the chromosomes of the cell nuclei of an organism. Karyotypes of the suspects were used to narrow down the search with the DNA found at the scene. Pedigree: A genealogical table of ones family. Pedigrees of the suspects were made to see if Comet was involved. DNA Structure: DNA is formed by two chains that create a double helix and is made with nucleotides. Gene: A unit of heredity transferred from parent and offspring and determines a characteristic of the offspring. Alleles: Alternative forms of a gene that are arise by mutation. Mutation: When the structure of a gene changes and passes on to the next generation of offspring. This is caused by the alteration in base units of the DNA.
Reflection This project definitely took a good amount of effort. This is mainly because the evidence had to be accurate and presentable, which I felt was one of the things I did right. The evidence was presentable and accurate. I also felt I did well creating the slideshow. My group helped with it as well but for the parts I worked on were complete and thought out. One thing I didn't really do well in was answering the judges questions. Kaleb and Jake ended up answering most of the questions but I probably could have answered more. Another thing I could improve on is leadership. Although I feel I did alright in terms of leadership, I could have helped my group more than I did
